Howard Vicini: Thinking of you.
Submitted by Howard2 on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 14:46

Hello folks -

I have wanted to write to you all day, but the need for sleep got in the
way. Now, rested, I awoke to a little sunshine breaking through the gray and
rain of this day in San Francisco, with even a hint of a rainbow.

It is not lost on me that the day's weather has been like a metaphor for
what I also awoke to in my Inbox ... the words of determination, anger,
hope, and resolve from so many of you. The outpouring of these feelings is
the best medicine for all of us right now, and I appreciate it so much that
you are taking the time to share them with me.

By tomorrow I will begin posting your messages on our website at
www.seniorsforamerica.com for all of us to share. I hope that some of you
who received meaningful responses from people you wrote to during our
letter-writing projects will also share those.

Many of you have received Gov. Dean's strong words of encouragement and his
invitation for all to attend their DFA Meetups tonight. I share his
sentiments ... "This is not an ending"... we are a strong community and we
will endure. (please visit http://dfa.meetup.com/ to locate a DFA Meetup
near you ... held on the first Wed of each month at 7 pm.)

Finally, I'll leave you with the following words from Thomas Paine that
someone sent today ... that are as timely today as when they were first
written.

Thinking of you all,

Howard

Dear Howard

It was such a pleasure to meet you at the training last August.

I appreciate so much your advice with Randy Camacho. What a blow last Tuesday was for all of us.

Two more years? I hope so, for all of our sakes.

today, an E mail came from a Chilean friend and it is sort
of a catharsis...something ALSO NEEDED.

love and see you soon back home.

N Gilyard: we'll have to build dem party from the ground up.

So many people I talked with yesterday from almost every economic and ethnic group were either depressed or angry. Many talked about leaving for another country. Some believe that the event was a charade because of the makers of the voting machines. I believe that if we want to reverse this madness we'll either have to build democratic party from the ground up (local to national)and really organize the effort like never before. It's our only hope. Let's go to work.

Thanks for all your efforts and words of encouragement.

Howard,

I can appreciate the disappointment you must be feeling today along with the rest of us. I want to thank you for your many efforts for Seniors for America.

I'm glad to have contributed even my small amount to the Campaign. It's a sad time indeed--we'll pray for the future...

Thanks, Howard.

I too enjoyed Governor Dean's email. He is such a wonderful person, my hero.

Today was very hard--so hard I couldn't even talk for most of the day. But, I am feeling better now having talked with a few friends just to process what has happened. Can begin again.

Howard,

Except for the outcome, working 5am-9pm in the polling place went well enough, apart from running out of ballots at 8am. Got more 15 min later though.

Had 2,735 voters come through our rural elementary school cafeteria. They went for Bush over Kerry about 2-to-1. We're in a very Republican area.

They also re-elected our 1-term Republican Congressman Joanne Davis by over 4-to-1. But the opponent who said he was independent was a closet Libertarian I think.

Howard -

I am unable to articulate what we are all feeling.

Many friends have called to share their concern and frustration. Will get in touch soon.

I look forward to the gathering that will bring many of us together again to contemplate the future and our actions in it.

Warm regards,

Howard -- Thanks you for your thoughtful e-mail. I've received so many vitriolic messages, so it's good to hear from someone who is
disappointed, but wants to move forward.

Let's stay in touch. -- John
