We need to get the blogs working very quickly on impeachment...
There is little doubt that there is enough evidence to make the case for impeachment, on more than one charge.
I say we impeach Bush on the internet, then let them take our blog-fueled case and run with it.
Lets turn the internet into an impeachment machine.
Lets have a "Public Impeachment." Whether our lawmakers take it up or not doesn't matter as muh as making the case for history to judge. We don't have to worry about supporting Kerry now, so we can concentrate on exposing Bush without having to fight that fight, too..
Remember Monica

I have to say something about the election ... here is myletter to President Bush ...
Dear President Bush,
Congratulations on your double-barreled win in the 2004 Presidential election--Wow, both the popular and electoral vote. That's an accomplishment.
Also, congratulations on a sign of maturing...I refer to your timing in not claiming victory too early, your graciousness to Senator Kerry. I am still not ready to forget how you let your attack dogs malign his courage, war record, leadership, but at least this is a move in the right direction on your part.
Now, it is up to you to show your own personal brand of courage. We shall watch closely as you stop the never-ending profits of large pharmaceutical companies...and we shall await with great anticipation your getting the FDA on course so it can do its job of protecting us from unsafe drugs such as Vioxxin instead of worrying about drug-smuggling grannies bringing in safe prescriptions from Canada...
Let's not forget other issues of health care...you're a proud man, so I am sure it disturbs you that the American Health Care System is in a shambles...other countries, even those with their 'freedom-limiting Socialization' perform better than we on virtually all fronts...and, since you are man of faith, I am sure you will pray that this be a small flu season, and that you are hard at work planning the steps that will ensure that all Americans--at least those who don't die this year--have access to flu vaccines next year.
You now have a chance to conduct a sane foreign policy which will end the continuing deaths of young Americans in what otherwise will be a never-ending war...you can reassure seniors that Social Security will not be cut with your privatization plan calling for private investment and a drying up of the Social Security funding (do I hear rumblings of 1929?)...And with your leadership on the energy front, we look forward to plans to make our country energy independent, free from the addiction to and reliance upon Middle Eastern Oil...
Success on all these fronts will guarantee a continuation of the recovery of the jobs lost during your first administration...the increased tax revenue will offset the costs of the war in Iraq or wherever else you perceive a terrorist threat, except, of course, in Afghanistan, which really doesn't bother you much anymore because we have caputred the real architect of terror, Saddam Hussein.
And, let's not forget the environment...we can hardly wait to be able to eat fish again without worrying about the Mercury levels thanks to your EPA cracking down on polluters...
What can I say about equal opportunity? You say you want to represent all Americans, so I'll bet that you're already planning your remarks for the next NAACP meeting.
So, you have the chance for a 'Golden Age,' Mr. President. And, believe it or not, I hope you are successful. I am including some comments from another Missourian, Harry S Truman. He's much more articulate than I, and I thought some of his comments at his inaugural might be helpful as your prepare for January 20, 2005:
"I accept with humility the honor which the American people have conferred upon me. I accept it with a resolve to do all that I can for the welfare of this Nation and for the peace of the world.
"In performing the duties of my office, I need the help and the prayers of every one of you. I ask for your encouragement and for your support. The tasks we face are difficult. We can accomplish them only if we work together.
"Each period of our national history has had its special challenges. Those that confront us now are as momentous as any in the past. Today marks the beginning not only of a new administration, but of a period that will be eventful, perhaps decisive, for us and for the world.
"It may be our lot to experience, and in a large measure bring about, a major turning point in the long history of the human race. The first half of this century has been marked by unprecedented and brutal attacks on the rights of man, and by the two most frightful wars in history. The supreme need of our time is for men to learn to live together in peace and harmony.
"The peoples of the earth face the future with grave uncertainty, composed almost equally of great hopes and great fears. In this time of doubt, they look to the United States as never before for good will, strength, and wise leadership.
"It is fitting, therefore, that we take this occasion to proclaim to the world the essential principles of the faith by which we live, and to declare our aims to all peoples.
"The American people stand firm in the faith which has inspired this Nation from the beginning. We believe that all men have a right to equal justice under law and equal opportunity to share in the common good. We believe that all men have a right to freedom of thought and expression. We believe that all men are created equal because they are created in the image of God.
"From this faith we will not be moved.
"The American people desire, and are determined to work for, a world in which all nations and all peoples are free to govern themselves as they see fit, and to achieve a decent and satisfying life. Above all else, our people desire, and are determined to work for, peace on earth--a just and lasting peace--based on genuine agreement freely arrived at by equals..."
Good luck, Mr. President!

Dear friends,
Well, we gave a good go! We all worked hard, but there are more thinking Oregonians than there are Americans!
I went to bed last night and had bad dreams. This morning I found the dreams were true. Even here in Oregon Bush received 47% of the vote.
I am definitely out of step! I cry for the world.
thanks,

Hello everyone,
It is with profound disappointment and sadness that I send this note. Today, the day after, we awaken, yet again, to a nation and world divided. Yesterday's election has proven beyond a doubt that America is solidly divided. We remain a nation and world in crisis. A new vision, compass, and leadership seem to await another time.
I have not, precisely, decided what I, personally, can and will do to carry on the fight to right America. But this much I know, we must continue the fight. We can not be dissuaded by the fear and rancor of those who would silence us and our message. If we are to remain a great nation, dissent, diversity, and tolerance must prevail.
Finally, I want to take this opportunity to thank each of you for having read my emails over the past months. I hope you found them helpful. I wish each and everyone of you all the blessings that life has to offer. I wish you strength and comfort in the knowledge that we have fought "the good fight"; we are right to be concerned for America and our role in leading the world.
Pax vobiscum,
...mark

George W. Bush stumbled through tonight's debate ...

George W. Bush stumbled through tonight's debate in the same way he has stumbled through his Presidency. His message of fear is misleading. His message on Iraq is based on lies. His lack of message on the erosion of our civil rights is terrifying.
Senator John Kerry stepped forward tonight with a clear message of hope for America and the World, in the same way he has stepped forward for public service all of his life. He is a man of peace who has already been tested in war. He is a Senator who has a clear record on the environment, civil rights and education.
It is now time for the American Public to step forward to put our Country back on course under a new, smarter, more compassionate administration that respects other Nations, and the intelligence and the civil rights of the American People.
Most of all, it is time to elect a President who tells us the truth.

I have (or had?) two very Christian, conservative (Republican) friends. One out of state, the other in San Diego. Thus our primary means of communication is e-mail. One has stopped all communication with me. The other, for lack of a better term, has turned condescending or benignly tolerant. Meanwhile, a very Catholic cousin (in Arizona) has refused to exchange one e-mail on the subject.
I see them as being very symptomatic of the middle America, agrarian and/or Southern states that staunchly support Bush. Damn the torpedoes or reason or logic or anything. He is a Christian! And that seems to be the end of it. Discussion over. That is what we are fighting. And to fight that kind of thinking is to be a heathen or a liberal California nut, etc.
I am frustrated and angry and have often been amazed and awed. Point by individual point, there is no meaningful response to the specific issuses, re: Iraq, the economy, etc. But because Bush and the GOP have claimed religion, excuse me - "Christianity," I presume those folks believe he is on God's side and, thus, must be retained. It is awesome, but more significantly, it is frightening.
This is one ultra important reason Thomas Jefferson very clearly separated church and state in Virginia and then in the Constitution. But these people see only the heathen judges and media as the cause for taking religion and morality away from us.
Sorry to rant like this, but I'm feeling so Damned angry! I don't find anything in the Seniors for America or the Democratic party or Anywhere - that has any response, much less an effective response, to this twisted thinking. I fear our society is not all that much different from the fundamentalist Muslim dominated countries. I also fear that the kind of politics currently practiced by the GOP is destroying or has destroyed the kind of Democracy we'd like to think we have in this country.
Thanks for reading this.

Media For America Campaign

Summary
The Media For America (MFA) campaign is working closely with inter-faith church
groups, media educators and seniors to involve one million additional citizens
in the growing public lobby for media reform by engaging them in specific activities
associated with the 2004 presidential election campaign. The
MFA website is constructed for use by people with no knowledge whatsoever
about media reform and encourages them to support the immediate re-appointment
of Jonathan Adelstein to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
Background
Revelations in the past year that major news organizations have failed to adequately
cover several serious issues such as the war in Iraq and further relaxation
of media ownership rules have created an unprecedented opportunity to make media
reform an election year issue with great implications for the revitalization
of republican democracy.
Media policy, normally an obscure issue prone to special interest manipulation,
has suddenly become an issue in this year’s election for three key reasons:
- More than 2 million citizens expressed strong opposition to the FCC and
Congress following the controversial 2003 media ownership ruling.
- Citizens in ever-greater numbers are attending local meetings organized
via the Internet and becoming involved in grassroots political activities.
- Least known but most significant of all: For the first time in seventy years,
not one but TWO FCC commissioners have taken a spirited stand for media rules
and regulations in the public interest.
MFA was launched by John Boyer and Henry Kroll after teaming up at the National
Media Reform Conference held in Madison, Wisconsin last November. After initial
involvement in public affairs programs for PBS, both have extensive experience
in media education, media policy reform and community outreach. For more information
about them and the MFA campaign, go to www.mediareform.org.
Action Plan
MFA was established in February, 2004, to encourage many more concerned citizens
to join the remarkable public lobby of roughly 3 million supporting media reform
during the months before the November election by working with all members of
the newly formed Public Interest, Public Airwaves Coalition (PIPAC) to re-appoint
Jonathan Adelstein to a full term on the FCC.
MFA is also working with three key groups, Unitarian Universalists for a Just
Economic Community (UUJEC), the Action Coalition for Media Education (ACME),
and Seniors For America (SFA) to:
- Convene local meetings with members of other church groups, citizen organizations,
and media activists to start a letter writing / e-mail / telephone campaign
urging the reappointment of FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein.
- Using toolkits provided by PIPAC and others, form small working groups to
visit their local broadcast TV stations, cable TV companies, and radio stations
seeking a formal pledge to devote more resources and airtime to covering candidates
and issues in this year’s election, and find out how much money they
are making on political advertising.
- Report back their findings for Internet dissemination and discussion.

I'm wondering if you might want to feature a link to this site as a way for
folks to find Assisted Living communities near them.
Assisted Living Federation of America
It's a searchable directory of all those facilities that belong to the Assisted Living Federation of America; it's not comprehensive in the sense of many smaller Mom & Pop assisted living places(many of which are being renamed Board & Care Homes), but it has many, many of the newer "purpose built" AL communities.
