Please answer all of the following questions and return to:

Seniors for America, 179 Oak Street #L, San Francisco CA 94102.

Questionnaire must be received by 5 pm, Friday, September 3, 2004.

Endorsements will be announced at Noon, Wednesday, September 15, 2004.

1) Is this your first campaign? If so, what or who inspired you to run for office?

This is the first time I've run for public office.

Working as a volunteer on Howard Dean's campaign during the past year inspired me to engage fully in the political process as a candidate.

2) What is your Party affiliation?

Democrat

3) What elected offices have you held? Years?

None. This is my first campaign.

4) Please list the three most important issues to your campaign.

1. Economic Development to create jobs, fill vacant office space and restore the City's tax base. We can do this with innovations, like free citywide internet access over a wireless network and a city-sponsored incubator to nurture promising new businesses that will bring jobs to the City.

2. New housing for middle and low income residents. The only way to achieve our goals of lowering rents and lowering the cost of homeownership is to build new housing and make it easier for people to buy a home so they are not forced out of the City.

3. Improve the quality of life for residents by keeping parks clean, ensuring public safety and providing adequate treatment for the mentally-ill homeless population.

5) What do you feel sets you apart from your opponent(s)?

Unlike the other leading candidates in the District 5 Supervisor race, I will bring no special-interest or ideological allegiances to City Hall. I'm not compromised by my political alignments or employment by any City-funded agencies. Instead, I come from a strong grounding in economics, business and human rights work in the private sector.

I propose practical solutions to the City's most pressing needs. If elected, I intend to participate in a working majority on the Board that can work with the Mayor's office to push through important legislation and get some much-need things done in San Francisco. I will not be influenced by ideological concerns or petty squabbles among the Board or their political and financial backers.

6) Please list your other endorsements.

Howard Dean and Democracy for America.

I've also been endorsed by hundreds of friends and neighbors in the City.

7) Please list your other grassroots support.

My campaign's greatest strength is its grassroots corps of volunteers. We have over 125 active individuals who have been busy organizing public events like parties and picnics, canvassing our neighborhoods talking to voters, manning registration drives for new voters and hosting house parties. Recently, my team successfully collected the 1000 verified signatures needed to get my name on the ballot without a fee.

8) Please state your previous occupation and professional affiliations.

Currently, I am taking a leave of absence from Business for Social Responsibility (BSR), where my focus was on human rights and labor standards. Recently, I served as the volunteer coordinator in District 5 for Howard Dean's presidential bid. Previously, I worked for SPT, a technology-related company.

Before moving to San Francisco, I served on the national advance staff for Al Gore's 2000 presidential campaign. I hold a degree in Economics from Williams College, including course work in history and trade at Oxford University.

9) Please list your hobbies and other interests.

I enjoy reading, surfing, and running.

10) Seniors for America member referral.

Howard Vicini
