1) Is this your first campaign? If so, what or who inspired you to run for office?

No.  I ran in 2000 and nearly defeated a 4x incumbent.  I did not run in 2002 because I was the primary caregiver for my father in law who we took out of a nursing home to live with us.  After he passed away in November 2002 I began working on building my party.  I decided to run because we wanted to have candidates fill every available position and we were having difficulty recruiting viable candidates.  Having run a good race in 2000 I was pressured to run again.  I was also inspired by Howard Dean.

 

2) What is your Party affiliation?  

Democrat. I serve as the vice chair of the 28^th district democrats

 

3) What elected offices have you held? Years? 

I was on the executive board of my union SEIU 1199Nw and held various other elected positions in the union.  I am a past state committee woman of the 28^th district and currently hold the office of Vice Chair.

 

4) Please list the three most important issues to your campaign.

Jobs, health care and education are my top three priorities

 

5) What do you feel sets you apart from your opponent(s)?

My professional experience is that of a nurse and representative of health care workers.  I have been the chief negotiator for collective bargaining agreements and represented workers in employer disputes.  Through my community activity I have learned how to recruit, develop and train volunteers and I have learned how to maintain an active volunteer base to complete projects and maintain an organization over a long period of time.  I have good listening skills and good negotiating skills.  I have the skill and practice of bringing folks from two very different opinions together to sit down and create workable solutions.  I am a mom and grandmother and have lived in the community for over 17 years.  My husband lived in the area since he was an elementary student and we have been married for 26 years.

My opponent served in the military and then taught college courses.  His community activities are limited.  He has not lived in the community long.  He has not held elected office.
